Bushmills release The Causeway Collection

We were thrilled to be included in the launch event for the new Causeway Collection of Whiskeys from Bushmills featuring a 2006 Moscatel Cask and a 1995 Malaga Cask.

The fantastic tasting pack arrived with generous samples of both whiskeys as well as an array of goodies including Causeway wooden and stone coasters - made from Antrim basalt and the oak from the barrel, as well barley samples, water from St Columb's Rill, a tributary of the river Bush and a pair of branded long-stemmed tulip tasting glasses.

At the appointed hour we began the online tasting event with Helen Mulholland - Bushmills Master Blender taking us through the process from start to finish. Helen has been at Bushmills for almost thirty years and she explained her journey at Bushmills which started as an industrial placement from college!

Helen says she wanted to provide Bushmills in it's purest form and that is what is in these bottles, influenced by the natural environment and the time aging in that environment. The causeway collection is incredibly close to her heart and is something she hopes people will love.

And so on to the whiskeys!

2008 Moscatel Cask - first aged for 8 years in oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels is then recasked into red moscatel casks for further four years, the oak imparts luscious ripe fruits and a deep sweetness from its permeation with wine made from the aromatic muscat grape.

Colour - rose gold

Nose - floral with a hint of citrus, orange blossom.

Palate - lovely warming mouthfeel, but no fieriness. Caramelised fruit.

Finish- a burst of raisin

1995 Malaga Cask

This has matured for over 10 years in oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels and then recasked for another full 14 years of malaga cask maturation - thats nearly 25 year in oak - and the flavour is fool proof of this.

Colour - antique gold

Nose - black coffee, nuts and sweet wood

Palate - that Bushmills toffee, spiced plum, soft sweet spice

Finish - warm fruit and vanilla finish, a hint of mint.

A fantastic opportunity to be the first to taste these mazing new products from Bushmills - looking forward to tasting these at a Kilkenny Whiskey Guild event in the near future!
